In the first piece [of crap], David Gallo Sr, of Springfield goes after Landau for supposed lies regarding Fair Acres. Gallo writes: "In truth, some 43 percent of the residents at Fair Acres are Democrats while only 52 percent are Republicans. This ratio is far more democratic than the actual ratio in the county."
Well, in truth Gallo fails to note that he is on the both the Springfield Library Board and the Environmental Committee. Two committees, 14 people (15 if you count Gallo for each position) and only one registered Democrat. In Springfield, only 68% are registered Republican, but Gallo and other GOP lackeys seemed to have done much better than 68%. Far less democratic and Democratic. Does Gallo owe his position to McGarrigle? Are shill pieces in the Delco Times WITHOUT mention of conflict of interest part of the job requirement?
In piece number 2 [#2 says it all], Michael Culp (also of Springfield) jumps on the McGarrigle bandwagon and goes after David Landau and Rocco Polidoro. Rocco has fought an uphill battle against GOP corruption in Springfield for years. Rocco is a legitimate concerned citizen. His biggest target has been the man behind the curtain, Charlie Sexton. I wonder if MR. Culp has any connection to Charlie.
Hmm, turns out Mr. Culp has a county job on the Prison Board.
And last, and certain not the least in the shilling department, is Gil Spencer and his blatant attack on Landau. He takes a quote "..proven tax delinquents like Tom McGarrigle .." and gives McGarrigle a shoulder shrug and a pass. Gil's summary "He didn’t cheat on his taxes. Business got bad. He fell behind. He caught up. He paid what he owed." misstates the difference between cheating a being delinquent. McGarrigle chose not to pay his taxes on time. He got caught. He was forced to pay the back taxes and penalties. Spencer also mis-characterizes the facts surrounding how McGarrigle's tax problems were revealed (as was discussed in earlier posting).
During the Editorial board interviews, Spencer catches McGarrigle unable to justify a frequently repeated false accusation about Landau. When McGarrigle backs off the accusation (for the duration of the meeting), Spencer is easily impressed. Spencer has no problem repeating another false accusation regarding Landau, incorrectly claiming that Landau's firm got no-bid work which was in fact bid, awarded and won.
Here's the funny part: Gil attempts full disclosure..
(In the interest of full disclosure, this columnist’s son, Jake Spencer, 23, works five hours a week at Fair Acres, as a pin setter for the Friday night bowling league and as a once-a-week lunch aide. Last week, he took home $51 and change. Readers and the Landau campaign can make of that what they wish.)
What I make is what Gil leaves out:
What Gil fails to mention is the $57,680 Courthouse job held by his ex-wife, Patricia A Cofiell, and mother of his 22 year old son, Fredrick. What is Ms. Cofiell's job you ask? Communications Coordinator for Public Relations. Not-coincidentally, this appears to be Gil's job for the GOP machine as well. For someone like Gil, who has scoffed at Landau's claims of cronyism and patronage at the courthouse, the employment of his son's mother by the same system he denies and supports bears upon the fullness of Gil's disclosure. Gil is full of something alright.

Ah, so Gallo is on the all-powerful Library Board! And the Environmental Board to boot! Well, then, of course he is incapable of rational thought.
And the other guy, on the Prison Board. We must of course assume that he was asked to serve on that board for his sycophantic tendencies, not because he is a competent individual who brings valuable attributes to the board. That would be impossible! (Query if that is that a "job"? Do they get paid on that board?)
As for Gil's ex-wife, why, the idea that a newspaperman might have a relationship with someone also in the business of media relations just strains credulity! She must be a patronage hack; there is no other explanation!
And of course, there is no closer, friendlier, cozier relationship than that of a man and his ex-wife. That just speaks volumes! They probably spend hours together, cuddled up on the sofa with a glass of wine and the fireplace crackling, dreaming up new ways to work together to assure Republican victory. It all makes sense now.
Really, David, you have outdone yourself this time.
That Inquirer endorsement must really be rankling you and your little friends.
Pat-
The point was not only that Gallo is a Springfield political insider with 2 appointments (that I could find), but also that the Springfield board is also dis-proportionally filled with GOP lackeys. Gallo should have disclosed his connection.
Charlie Sexton's prison deal is the type of thing we need a Democratic Council to prevent in the future. Sexton's the boss of Springfield. And, yes, in Springfield we must assume that Charlie has filled the place with his sycophants.
I wouldn't be surprised if Gil's ex-wife had as little fondness for him as I do. Be that as it may, Gil tosses out the $51 a week his one son makes as "challenge" to his detractors, as though his integrity can be bought for $51 a week. However, I'm sure the $57,680 his ex-wife makes provides very well for their other son (a lot more than $51/week).
Given the patronage system in Delco and Gil hack-support of the GOP machine, the connection is certainly relevant, especially when Gil tries to imply that $51/week is the only "influence" in his life.
Pat, don't you find three attack pieces by GOP insiders, all on the same day, and all on the same candidate, a little suspicious (or desperate)?
Why would I find it suspicious? Haven't the Dems done the exact same thing? I forget their names, but several Dems wrote letters to the editor criticizing the County, praising the Dems, etc.
On another note, I was thinking, David, that it's not too early for you to start rehearsing your rationalizations and rants for when your guys lose on Tuesday.
Some suggestions:
1) the voters are so brainwashed by the Republican machine; they are afraid to vote for Democrats because they fear Republican retaliation.
2) the Republicans outspent us because they strong-armed everyone who does business with the County to raise money.
3) the voters are idiots and don't recognize our innate superiority.
4) there were many voting machine irregularities, but there is no point in challenging them since the Election Board is controlled by Republicans.
I am sure you can add to this list, but I thought you might want to start rehearsing now, since you'll need to have your whole rant in order in less than a week.
Pat-
Well, let's wait for Tuesday to see who wins.
The Democrats biggest disadvantage is the inability to raise as much money as the Republicans. (And, yes, they can raise more money through strong-arming and back-door deals for no-bid contracts. i.e. business as usual)
When the Dems have the resources to get their message out, they do well. Win or lose, we have the better candidates this year.
DO I detect a note of resignation here, David? You don't sound as obnoxiously optimistic as have in the past.
And no, you don't have the better candidates.
Not one of your candidates has a whit of municipal experience (except as paid solicitors). None has ever run a business.
What they do share is a history of running for office. One wonders what kind of person runs for Congress, or judge, and loses, and then runs for County Council?
You will no doubt say, a person who wants to serve the public. But I think they are also very likely self-promoting and delusional, almost messianic, convinced that the public needs them, and they can do anything, and anything they do bestows a benefit on the public.
David Landau is, obviously, the biggest self-promoter in the group. He calls himself Sestak's "senior advisor," for crying out loud. Did Sestak have any "junior advisors"?
I suspect that Landau is running for County Council because there's a possibility that Sestak will run against Specter in a couple of years, and Landau wants to succeed Sestak. (Talk about your delusions of grandeur.
Pat-
I'm just hoping the GOP has false sense of optimism and sleeps through the election.
I guess you didn't pay attention to the debate when John Innelli discussed his experience running his own business and helping out other businesses deal with large financial issues. Or maybe you did pay attention and are purposely "forgetting" to mention it.
McGarrigle's "municipal" experience in Springfield is as a stooge for Sexton. So, to some, that would give him the experience to be a stooge for Sexton on council. However, that is not the kind of experience we need.
As for what Sestak and Landau do or plan behind close doors, you'll have to ask them. As for Sestak running against Spector, there are two flaws there:
1) Spector might not run (could be open seat)
2) Sestak would not win a statewide Dem primary. He certainly won't get my support in a primary race, and I'm not alone on this.
The gaps in your omniscience are getting more and more obvious.
You know what is going on in the mind of every Republican in the County, but you don't know what Landau and Sestak are planning? Come on!
And how do you know that Tom McGarrigle is Charlie Sexton's stooge? Have you ever been to a Springfield meeting? Do you have any evidence of this whatsoever? Or is this just yet another example of you recklessly running off at the mouth?
Don't worry, our optimism is flourishing and well-founded, but we never stop working. Just ask the 30+ people who were working on getting out a GOTV mailing for Andy Lewis tonight!
Pat-
You are the one claiming to know (or suspect) what Sestak and Landau are planning. After my criticism of Sestak's Iraq vote, you're more likely to get in on that meeting.
Moran and Twardy are amateurs compared to Sexton and his Springfield stooges. Multiply everything you fought against in Haverford by 10.
Why so many people working on the mailing? Get a PDF image, a list of addresses, and send it off to a professional mailing house.
Gee, thanks for the advice. But sometimes doing things the old-fashioned (and less expensive) way is a good team-building exercise.
I don't know what Landau and Sestak are cooking up, but I thought it was a reasonable conjecture. That's the difference between you and me: I don't try to pass my speculation off as fact.
And here you go again: leveling charges of corruption against someone, without citing any evidence. Explain to me please exactly what Sexton has done that is corrupt? (Just being powerful doesn't count.)
Pat-
I'll leave the details and evidence about Charlie to the FBI and the grand jury. What I know and believe about Charlie would only amount to hearsay, which is why the FBI had to tap the phones. I've had the distinct displeasure of meeting Sexton. Let's put it this way: on a hunting trip together, Cheney would be the one at a disadvantage.
However, it doesn't require much imagination to picture a political boss as strong as Charlie dictating the hiring/firing of allies/enemies based upon their allegiances to him and the level of their donations. Rocco has a great story about how when he ran in Springfield years ago, the lever next to his name was loose and didn't record votes. When he sent in written complaint to Board of Elections, the "lost" it and no investigation of the machines was performed. Politics as usual.
Pat, defending Charlie Sexton is not going to score you or Andy any points. In fact, your feigned ignorance of the these types of problems in Springfield indicate that Andy won't pursue the GOP machine corruption either, if he gets his piece of the pie on council.
So Rocco Polidoro says there was a loose lever on the voting machine, and a failure to investigate by the Election Board? Wasn't that # 4 on my list of reasons Democrats lose, the reasons I suggested you start rehearsing now, in preparation for Tuesday?
I am not defending Charlie Sexton; just asking if you know anything except rumor and innuendo. As with so many other things, you don't.
Also please don't assume that what I say is a predictor of what Andy will do.
While Pat and Dave are busy bashing each other's brains in :-) , I just want to point out that I use Gil Spencer's column to wrap the fish guts that I'm throwing out after I'm done filleting. But: I only do that when I have no other alternative, since even fish guts deserve better...
Mike-
When Gil's blog came out, I wrote a letter to the editor for the print edition. My analysis:
"Now electronic birds have something with which to line their cages."
What is this, "Best of David Diano"?
You've hit a new low when you start repeating your own (lame)jokes.
P.S. to Mike: I'll stop beating up on David after election day. I don't believe in kicking someone when he's down.
Pat-
The whole site is the "best of David Diano". That's kind of the point. :-)
